World Supersport Champion in 2013 on a Yamaha R6, Sam moved to Moto2 the following season, obtaining a good fourth place in the Championship in 2015 on Speed Up, with a victory in Texas. He finished fifth the following year with two victories on a Kalex within Fausto Gresini's team.

These good results earned him the opportunity to be included in the official Aprilia team this year in MotoGP, where unfortunately things went less well. Lowes fell a little too much, the Aprilia lacked reliability, and in the end the results were so disappointing that Sam is currently only in twenty-fifth position with 2 points. It's very far from the other rookies Johann zarco, Jonas Folger et alex rins.

Aprilia therefore declared the divorce, and Sam received interesting offers in Moto2. He finally accepted that of the CarXpert Interwetten team to take over from Tom Luthi. “When it became clear that I would not continue with Aprilia, I received a lot of interest and many people told me that they were convinced that I could win the Moto2 title. That was nice to hear. It's always great to sign a contract, you feel better, but I have some work to finish this year. This helps relieve some pressure and I can now focus on the last six races of the year. »

Because Lowes is of course dissatisfied with his performances in MotoGP, even if all the failures are not necessarily attributable to him. “I want to try to achieve some important results today so that I can leave with my head held high. If I succeed and show that I can ride a MotoGP, then coming back to Moto2 next year and being crowned could open other doors for me. It frees me from a weight since I no longer need to think about my future. »

We must now finish the current season as best as possible: “I can focus on the remaining six events and do the best job possible. We had good tests at Misano. I only completed 40 laps there due to my foot injury that occurred in Brno, which is still diminished, but it's a circuit that I like and a track on which I have some knowledge of MotoGP. I'm looking forward to it and it's the team's home event, which is great. I love Misano and can't wait to go there. The goal is to get closer to the front, score points and try to get into the top 10 by the end of the season. »

It will then be the return to Moto2, with strong hopes of good results: “I am preparing to make my return to Moto2 and I believe I can win the Championship on a bike capable of winning the title. Of course it won't be easy, but I have a chance and that's all I'm asking for. I'm coming back to try to get there and then return to MotoGP. »
