Thanks to Dominique's superb performance, although under constant pressure from his compatriot Tom Lüthi, Suter returned to the highest step of the podium since 2014. It was also the first Swiss double in Grand Prix, and with a Swiss motorcycle victorious.

In very difficult circumstances which caused a record number of falls, Aegerter managed to avoid the traps of Misano in the rain to win the second victory of his career, after Germany in 2014. Since his debut in Portugal in 2006, Dominique competed 177 Grands Prix, including 124 in Moto2, and was on the podium 8 times.

According to Dominique Aegerter, “I am very happy because I had to wait three years before returning to the top. I'm happy for myself, as well as for my team, because it's an important victory. I want to thank everyone for the great work we did this weekend.

“This morning I couldn't believe my eyes when I got up and saw the rain. I was then convinced that our strategy was not going to work, because we had a fast pace in the dry. So I wasn't happy that it was raining. During the race, the conditions were very delicate. There was a lot of water in places making the track very slippery.

“When Morbidelli fell in front of me, I told myself I had to stay calm and not overdo it. Later, Syahrin closed the gap, but I could also be faster. The last round, however, took forever. I managed to maintain a slight advantage over Tom, but then realized that if he could go faster, he would have passed me. But I also told myself that he had to concentrate on the Championship.

“Still, I wanted to win this race and I would have given everything if Tom had overtaken me. On the other hand, I had nothing to lose. I think Tom and I made history this Sunday. For a country as small as Switzerland, such a performance does not happen every day, because we do not have circuits. We have all waited a long time for this moment! Thanks to my team and to Suter for preparing a machine capable of winning this weekend. »

According to Stefan Kiefer, the team manager, “ What a great weekend for Kiefer Racing. Not only today's victory in the wet, but we were also very competitive in the dry every time. With Dominique, we were among the first five in each session and we started from the front row. In the end, he capped off the weekend with this fantastic victory.

“Congratulations to Dominique, he truly delivered a masterclass performance in these difficult conditions. At the same time, the team did a great job, because we always had a good setup. It was a pleasure to see how strong Dominique was this weekend. He was always in the top group, always. So it can continue like this. »
