For one of Ducati's two national Grands Prix, Lorenzo played his luck bravely by attacking hard as soon as the starting lights went out. He quickly opened up a big gap, before an unfortunate slip put an end to his dreams of victory. The attempt may not have been successful, but Jorge will have shown his desire to do well.

Although he took part in preliminary tests at the Misano circuit, Lorenzo did not have a very successful first day of free practice on Friday. With eighth position, he found himself behind the three other GP17s in Danilo Petrucci, Andrea Dovizioso and even Michele Pirro. He improved a little (by 0.2) on Saturday morning, but nevertheless completed free practice in seventh position. The main thing was that he qualified directly for Q2.

The qualifying practices took place correctly, but without particular panache, and Jorge achieved the fifth time, which earned him the start from the middle of the second row of the starting grid, between Cal Crutchlow and Johann zarco. During the warm up, in the wet, he set the fourth fastest time.

It was at the start of the race that he burst out of his box like hell, launching like a rocket to exit the first corner in first place. He then set an extremely fast pace, with 0.221 ahead of second place Marc Marquez at the end of the first lap, 1.437 in the third, 2.190 in the fourth, 3.411 in the fifth and 4.525 in the sixth. Unfortunately the story ended there, when the rear wheel of Jorge's Desmosedici suddenly lost grip, before regaining enough to send him into the high side. He was not injured, but had to give up.

For Jorge Lorenzo, “ This fall is really a shame. The bike was going very well and I was riding very calmly, without taking too many risks, trying to manage the tires well.

“Unfortunately, at one point I lost concentration while trying to change the mapping to a different electronic setup, used the rear brake in a slightly different way and that was enough to cause a high side and me to bring down.

“I'm very disappointed because I think I could have won the race with a big lead, but instead I had to retire. Racing is like that though and you have to accept that these things happen. »
