If you MotoGP test organized by IRTA in Jerez has barely ended (especially for KTM who were still running yesterday), the trucks of the factory teams are currently on their way to Mugello to allow the riders concerned to carry out a one-day test, private this time, in preparation for the Italian Grand Prix which will take place from June 1 to 3.

They are expected there on Thursday May 10, all factories except KTM, as well as the team LCR Honda, and three Moto2 teams (Marc VDS, Swiss Innovative Investors and Italtrans).

The test being private, no timing will be provided, but admission to the public being free through the entrance to the Palagio, no doubt a few images will be broadcast here and there.

The track will be open from 9 a.m. to 13 p.m. and from 14 p.m. to 18 p.m.

Italian Grand Prix obliges, Ducati will take particular care of these tests. We remember that Michele Pirro has already filmed there for 2 days on April 26 and 27. He will do it again on Friday May 11, with the track all to himself.

The main question that can be asked is whether why teams like Ducati, Suzuki and Aprilia boycotted the IRTA test in Jerez, which is however not deducted from the 5 days of authorized testing, to do tests at Mugello which, having nothing official, are well counted…

Obviously, for this year the Grand Prix in Jerez is over and the one in Mugello is to come... but that's not the only reason!

This is more due to the tire allowance provided to participants. During an IRTA test, Michelin is required to provide participants with 4 sets of tires per day per driver, with a maximum of 3 of the same model (soft, medium or hard). This results in the impossibility of making a day of testing fully profitable.

Let's take the case of the Yamahas who raced on medium/medium or the factory Hondas equipped on hard/medium: during an IRTA day, they will be able to do 3 runs with new tires, which, by pushing them to the maximum, will give around 75 laps, more than half of which with slightly degraded tires.

During a private testing day, teams can buy as many tires as they want, and therefore make many more useful comparisons with new tires...
