The drivers start the session with wet tires, and on this track which is more wet than dry, Khairul Idham Pawi is not the worst and is the first to go down in 2'26, while Lorenzo Dalla Porta gets trapped at turn #7.
At mid-session, the Honda Team Asia rider leads Binder, Navarro, Bagnaia, Locatelli, Antonelli, Mir. Di Giannantonio, Oettl et Azmi.
A few laps later, he was the only one to lap 2'25 when, 2 minutes from the end of the session, Brad Binder takes command in 2'25.601. This does not impress Pawi who regains his property at the last minute but is knocked out of the highest place in the ranking by Francis Bagnaia at the last second.
