A still wet track, an overexcited Crutchlow and a competition determined not to let itself be counted out, this Q.1 promised not to be a damp squib on the Sepang side. We were not disappointed and from this battle of ragpickers, it was Crutchlow and Baz who managed to give themselves the means to continue the day by inviting themselves into Q.2.

The first run was initially marked by the fall of Bradl who is doing decidedly worse this weekend than his teammate at Aprilia, Baptist. A first match during which Baz played the strong arm by leading the proceedings before, unfortunately, making a mistake in turn 2, in a figure which would bring back bad memories to Tom Sykes from his Superbike days.

Baz down, Crutchlow had free rein to take the lead five minutes from the checkered flag. The LCR driver demonstrated by completing the exercise with a time below 2'12 per lap, rejecting his second by more than a second. This one is a Baz who managed to advance to the final despite his fall and for 14 thousandths ahead Smith. Miller can also harbor regrets.
