The final for the best places on the starting grid took place on a Sepang track with increasingly welcoming asphalt because it was less and less wet. Enough to ask questions about tire fitting and in particular the opportunity to remove the intermediates. An equation solved by Dovizioso who won his second pole position of the season. All in front of the two official Yamahas ready to forget the disaster of Phillip Island.

The start of the exercise was the prerogative of a trio made up of Dovizioso, Red et Aleix Espargaro until Lorenzo shows a newfound determination in these kinds of precarious conditions. A party that Márquez could only join six minutes from the verdict. However, it was always Dovizioso who led the dance while waiting for the final attacks.

An opportunity missed by Crutchlow who will make a mistake three minutes from the conclusion. It will be followed later by Aleix Espargaró. But the Briton never admits defeat. Picking up his bike, he returned to the fight to snatch a good fifth position in the final moments.

For its part, Dovizioso had secured his second pole position of the year for quite some time with a time of 2'11.485. The Ducati rider is followed by Rossi who took second place Lorenzo at the end of the journey. Márquez is pushed back to the second row with the fourth beat while Iannone sixth fits in the second row.

Aleix Espargaró follows and beats once again Casa Particular in Viñales while Baptist continues its good run by entering a top 10 closed by Baz. This is the best career qualification for the Frenchman. Pol Espargaro et Hector Barbera complete the first part of the grid. Dovizioso will he be the ninth winner of the year?
