It was a handsome but dejected Alex Rins who witnessed Johann Zarco's second coronation from his box. A new title which means for the Spaniard a new failure in the quest for the Holy Grail, after those suffered against Maverick Vinales, Alex Marquez and Jack Miller in Moto3, then already against Johann Zarco in Moto2. The blow is harsh and the future Suzuki driver strongly blames it.
However, questioned in Sepang by our colleagues from Trademarks, Davide Brivio is calm about the decision he made in choosing Alex Rins to come and support Andrea Iannone next year, and the Suzuki team has even given us an appointment in a year…
Davide Brivio: “It was a difficult decision. We did a test with Zarco. He was very good. We were really impressed. But we had to decide. Every time you make a decision in life, at work, in sport, you give up one thing in exchange for another. It's like that. You must make the best decision. We have great esteem for Zarco since we had an agreement with him, because we believed in him and we believe in him. Certainly, we believe he is a great pilot. But there was only room for one. I wish Zarco good luck, but he will be our rival in MotoGP. He is a beautiful person and a great motorcycle enthusiast. Sometimes I talk to him. I wish him the best, to do well in MotoGP, and we try to carry out our project. »
Davide Brivio doesn't care at all about Rins' current morale: “I don't know how he's doing. I think that from the Monday after the Valencia race, a page will be turned. Everything will change and I am confident. I hope we will be able to comfort and help him well. I'm not worried because what I thought of Rins a year ago, I still think today. We will begin a new chapter this Monday. What he did in Moto2 will count for nothing. In a year, we'll talk about it again. »
