The sky is very British to welcome this first day of testing at Silverstone; gray, cold (16°) and loaded with a few very small scattered raindrops.

Even if Brad Binder did not finish his last race in Brno, his main rival, Jorge Navarro, was only able to take the Czech checkered flag in tenth position, which does not greatly increase the suspense in the championship. The Ajo Ktm rider still has a 61-point lead over the future Gresini Moto2 rider.
But as long as there are races, there is hope, and it is Jorge Navarro who sets a first milestone in 2'18.192, just ahead of Binder, after ten minutes.
Obviously, Brad Binder responded immediately and the two men then shared the leadership until the end of the first run where Navarro set a 2'17.321.
Jules Danilo is then 8th and Fabio Quartararo 16th, at least until the latter brought his Ktm into second position, ten minutes from the end of the session.
Binder reacts and laps in 2'16.710 before being overtaken by Francis Bagnaia then Navarro.
Johann McPhee, the latest winner in the category, inaugurates the list of crashes of the weekend at turn #5.
The last minutes saw Bagnaia break the 2'16 mark and impose his Mahindra in 2'15.748, three tenths ahead of very scattered competition in which we note Fabio Quartararo 6th and Jules Danilo 13th.
