Bradley Smith was due to start the final event on the 2016 World Endurance World (EWC) calendar this weekend in Oschersleben (Germany).

This participation ended prematurely for the Briton, victim of a fall during the end of the free practice session on Thursday morning. He was taken to Magdeburg hospital where a laceration of the right knee, as well as damage to the knee ligaments, was diagnosed.

Although no fractures were found, Smith underwent surgery Thursday evening. From now on, the rider of the Monster Yamaha Tech3 team is awaiting feedback from Dr. Mir, a regular surgeon for Grand Prix riders.

« I had an MRI of my knee which showed damage to the ligaments, » explains Smith. “ We are now awaiting explanations from the specialist, Doctor Mir from Barcelona. He knows about the injury. The MRI images have been sent to him and he is informed. As soon as we hear from him, we can put the right procedure in place together. The surgery I had yesterday was to treat the hole in my knee caused by the impact. There is no fracture and we are using MRI to check for further damage. Once assessed, we can plan my recovery program.«

Smith's participation in the next British Grand Prix on home soil has not yet been confirmed. This weekend it will be replaced by Sheridan Morais in the YART team.
