The Italian from the Pramac team had qualified in thirteenth position and therefore started from the fifth row next to Andrea Dovizioso who like him had a Ducati GP17, but official. The task therefore looked difficult and Petrucci hoped that the length of the race would be an advantage for him.
His start was good and he was thirteenth in the first lap, then progressed in the ranking by doubling Álvaro Bautista et Jonas Folger. He then took seventh position from Valentino Rossi in the fifteenth round after a great fight.
He gradually returned to the wheel of Maverick Vinales, but the Spaniard managed to resist the Italian until the checkered flag and Danilo had to settle for seventh place in the final, less than half a second behind Vinales.
In the provisional general classification, he is now in tenth position with 26 points, tied with his teammate Scott Redding and only two points behind Jorge Lorenzo.
For Danilo Petrucci, “ It was a great race. I am very happy. It was a shame to start so badly. I struggled a lot in the first lap then I started to recover positions thanks to my good race pace.
“I gave Rossi a good fight, but during those two rounds I lost contact with Vinales. I tried to recover by pushing hard. I came back very close, but there was no room to attempt an attack. I thank the team: they did a great job with the bike. »
