The Jerez track has the particularity of offering drivers a final turn inspired by a hairpin just before the finish. A design which provoked some memorable battles in the last few hundred meters following more or less controlled braking... by the collateral victims!
We of course had Rossi and Gibernau in 2005 (see video) but also Doohan and Criville in 1996 (see video). More recently, in 2013, this was the case Marquez/Lorenzo in 2013 at a place on the route of the Spanish Grand Prix which is now named after the Majorcan. Was he offended by the Honda driver's maneuver? He had undoubtedly forgotten his own battles with Joan Olivier in 1997 during an Aprilia Cup event… (see video)
What does the 2017 edition have in store for us? The long-awaited first real duel between Marc Marquez et Maverick Vinales, refereed by a Valentino Rossi winner last year?
We'll know in just over 140 hours...
