The return of the Grand Prix paddock to Jerez was impatiently awaited by those behind the scenes whose job it is to prepare for the future. At Honda for example, we receive in Spain the grievances of the LCR and Marc VDS teams to decide their fate at the same time as that of Jack Miller on whom the future status of Cal Crutchlow and the next destination of Franco Morbidelli will depend. For Moto2, it is the question of the next standard engine that is in the spotlight. We were waiting for the officialization of a mechanism Triumph. But another avenue has emerged. At least in the Italian press…
It's a surprise, but for the moment it's just one avenue of work among others. Including that of the three-cylinder Triumph which is not ruled out. Still, the rumor has given rise to the possibility of a new engine designed by the current supplier of original Honda mechanics.
According to GP One, Dorna would study the possibility of an engine designed by Geo Technology, the Swiss brand which supplied the four Japanese cylinders which powered the Moto2 when they were born in 2010 (Since then, this contract has been ensured by the Spanish company ExternPro). An approach which would allow manufacturers to enter the discipline under their own name without the disadvantage of evolving with an engine coming from the factory of one of its direct competitors on the market.
Seen like that, it would almost hold water, even if, currently, KTM is not suffering too much in terms of image in its current Moto2 project. The fact remains that this solution would perhaps also make it possible to do something new with something already proven, which would not displease suppliers of chassis trained on Honda four-cylinders... To be continued from the Grand Prix of France !

Note: We're reporting this "exotic" information, but based on the evidence we have, we don't believe it at all… The engine announcement is supposed to be made at Le Mans, and you already know that! ;)
