What if, after breaking all records for a woman in the World Championship, Ana Carrasco delivered the final blow by becoming the first woman to win a world title? She is, statistically, the best placed among her opponents to achieve this when they resume in two months.
Forced to leave the Moto3 World Championship at the end of the 2015 season, Ana Carrasco's career seemed very compromised at that time. Who would have imagined that less than three years later, she would be in the running to become world champion?
It must be said that the Spanish driver never gave up and was able to win where she was least expected. Arriving in the Supersport 300 World Championship in 2017, she finished tenth in her first race, already showing her potential. Advancing discreetly throughout the season, she revealed herself during the Portuguese Grand Prix last September which she won masterfully, becoming the first woman to win a World Grand Prix.
After finishing eighth in the Championship, she started the 2018 season in sixth then fourth place in Aragon and Assen, before once again making history at Imola and then Donington. She thus won, on the Italian track, the first pole position of her career and continued to write history by becoming, not only the first woman to do so in a World Cup, but also the first woman to lead a World Championship. world thanks to the victory she won the next day, in the race.
Two weeks later, she achieved a historic double on the English circuit by once again taking pole position and winning the Grand Prix for the second consecutive time! In addition to this, she became the first driver in the Supersport 300 Championship to accumulate pole position, victory, fastest lap in the race and the entire lead in the same weekend.
Although having encountered more complicated races at Brno at the beginning of June then at Misano this weekend, being unable to do better than eleventh then tenth, Ana Carrasco still leads the Championship and holds a sixteen point lead over her first pursuer. Although statistically there are still many riders who can take the title, the Kawasaki rider is the best placed. Not only is she the leader, but the next Grand Prix will also take place on the Portimão circuit, in Portugal, the same place where she won her first victory last year. She is therefore very strong there and is extremely determined.
If she managed to achieve this feat, she would become the first woman to win a world champion title, the ultimate record. However, we will have to wait for the championship to resume after the summer break, on September 14.
