A bombshell at Ducati. The Borgo Panigale manufacturer has just launched an official recall campaign concerning two of its flagship twin-cylinder sport bikes: the Panigale V2 and the Streetfighter V2. The cause is a problem as subtle as it is potentially dangerous, linked to… a simple fuse.
According to the technical documentation distributed by Ducatisome copies may present a reversal of the ABS system fuses during the assembly of the electrical harness. Specifically, the 25A fuse intended for the ABS pump and the 10A fuse dedicated to the control unit could have been swapped, or installed in incorrect fuse holders.
Result: the ABS pump, which requires a higher current, could be protected by an undersized fuse*.
In a prolonged braking situation with ABS active, this 10A fuse can blow. And in this case, the consequence is immediate: complete deactivation of the ABS.
The system warns the rider with the message "ABS Error" and the corresponding warning light, but the damage is done: the motorcycle is left without anti-lock braking assistance, with a real risk of wheel lock-up, both front and rear. On public roads, it goes without saying that the danger is serious.
Good news: the fix is as simple as the problem is sensitive. Authorized Ducati dealers are responsible for checking the installation of the fuses and their fuse holders; correcting their position if necessary; and ensuring that the ABS pump is properly protected by the designated 25A fuse.
The service is completely free and does not require any complex part replacement.
