Bell and Steve McQueen act 2: the 12 hours of Sebring
In March 1970 during his preparation for the filming of the iconic film “Le Mans”, Steve McQueen competed in the Sebring 12 Hour endurance race. For the occasion, he joined forces with a renowned Formula 1 driver: Peter revson. Despite McQueen's good driving skills, during a high-level race, the duo at the wheel of their Porsche 908 unfortunately finished second, a handful of seconds behind the crew made up of Mario Andretti, Ignazio Giunti et Nino Vaccarella on Ferrari 512S.
In memory of this memorable event, Bell has decided to relaunch this year a new range of helmets in homage to the King of Cool based on the Eliminator. This full-face helmet with a magnificent white color decorated with black lines makes this helmet a faithful reproduction of the one worn Steve McQueen during this race. “McQueen” is written on the left side of this helmet accompanied by its representation of 2 racing flags, highlighting the unique touch that his helmets have always had.
Bell continues the collaboration started with the heirs of McQueen around this other emblematic helmet. This special series is part of a long-term partnership, as a helmet pioneer and iconic American manufacturer, it is logical that Bell collaborates with the McQueen Estate to revive the spirit of motorsports of yesteryear. This replica version based on Eliminator is a must for all Steve McQueen enthusiasts, collectors and fans. It is available from Bell resellers from S to XXL and priced from €474,95 in limited series.
About the BELL Eliminator:
The Eliminator model has an undeniable aggressive design which is strongly inspired by motor racing helmets. The DNA of the Eliminator is inspired by the long history of US motorcycling, where drag racing, checkered flags, intense adventures and incredible circuits reign. It was designed for use on the handlebars of large motorcycles devoid of protections and fairings such as roadsters and cruisers, especially in a particularly hot environment, hence this particular work on ventilation.
The Eliminator's high-performance ventilation system was developed to offer the pilot constant comfort, especially in summer when the heat is high. New air inlets appear on the cap. The air rushes in more quickly and in greater quantity via the different channels to be distributed evenly around the head. New channels in the chin guard diffuse air over the lower part of the helmet into the foam linings. It is possible to close them using a control inside the chin guard. *
