BELL – Star with Mips technology

New 2018

Since its introduction in 1967, the BELL helmet Star has long been represented as THE reference in terms of protection. When it was released, it was one of the first full-face helmets on the market, it was the source of a new development of helmets for many manufacturers. This desire to innovate continues today.

The new BELL Star is more than an evolution of its predecessor, it is a new development to design the next generation of helmets. The new full-face helmet Star is the versatile model in the range for sport-touring use. Equipped with a fiber shell, the new product from the American manufacturer in the 2018 collection aims to provide one of the best fits in its category. The model sports an aggressive and contemporary design while maintaining a compact volume. For this, 6 caps and 6 caps are used to make all sizes from XS to 2XL, this is the Pro-Fit System imagined by BELL to guarantee the arrival of the models at fitting specific.

The complete BELL Star benefits from great technique both in terms of materials, finish and adjustment to assembly. The shell is produced by pressing and gluing a superposition of layers forming a matrix from three types of fibers. Carbon fibers, glass fibers, and aramid fibers. Under the shell, a liner of several pieces made from EPS (polystyrene) beads constitutes the interior of the helmet with so-called comfort foams. The construction of the whole is designed to offer perfect support and adjustment for each size. For each of the caps is associated its cap. The cheek pads are removable and washable, the magnetic buttons make them easy to remove.

At the screen level, the field of vision has been optimized – Panavision – to increase the vertical and lateral range of vision, including when driving sportily behind the screen of the motorcycle. The screen is 2D type and treated against UV with class 1 optical quality which prevents any distortion of the landscape whatever the environment or driving conditions. The attachment system employs a self-locking push button, so it is quick and easy to use. The sealing of the screen on the joint is ensured by the fixing plates which are equipped with springs to pull the screen backwards when it is lowered for a perfect seal. The screen is of the Max-vision type to integrate an anti-fog screen as an accessory.

In terms of ventilation, air intakes on the forehead and the chin guard ensure air entry while the extractors are located on the rear spoiler and the bottom of the helmet in the neck area. The latter is also optimized to ensure good soundproofing. BELL helmets are developed in a wind tunnel to optimize their aerodynamic and aero-acoustic characteristics, which ensure great stability at high speed, both vertically and laterally.

The Star with MIPS technology as standard!

The MIPS technology present on the Star model has been developed in Sweden since 1996 and scientifically proven to reduce rotational movement. In fact, the system absorbs and redirects the residual energies from the impact during the rotation of the head transferred to the brain. In a helmet equipped with the BPS protection system (MIPS Brain Protection System), the shell and the liner are separated by a low-friction intermediate layer of MIPS technology.

When a helmet with MIPS brain protection system is subjected to an angled impact, the low-friction layer allows the helmet to begin rotating relative to the head. Rotational motion is a combination of rotational energy (angular velocity) and rotational forces (from angular acceleration) that affects the brain and increases the risk of minor and serious brain injuries. The BPS system employing MIPS technology has been scientifically proven to reduce rotational motion when implemented in a helmet by absorbing and reducing rotational energies and forces transferred to the brain.

About Bell:

Whether for car racing, motorcycling or cycling, BELL is synonymous with performance and safety. Created in 1954 and widely proven since then, the brand and its products have garnered the admiration, trust and loyalty of numerous champions and amateur pilots all over the world.
