At BMW, we have a range of scooters which is enjoying some success, and it is promised an even more interesting future in the era of a new mobility that has yet to be defined. While punitive ecology seeks to cleanse the streets of automobiles, this two-wheeler hopes to fill the void that would then be left. Certainly, but the concept needs to be improved to make it attractive in all weathers. So why not a roof? The Bavarians are thinking about it, remembering a C1 that perhaps arrived too early…

BMW would he intend to rekindle the fire C1 up to date ? One wonders with these sketches showing that the brand is considering offering a removable roof for its range of scooters. According to the patents, it will be made of carbon fiber, to make it light and not penalize performance.

According to certain patents appearing on the internet, BMW appears to be working on creating a removable roof for its range of scooters. This would be the second “attempt”, after a C1 which had a fixed roof. Due to this safety offered, the machine could also be driven without a helmet. A concept that didn't really appeal at the time. From now on, times seem riper, hence this ongoing reflection…

The roof would, according to the patent, be removable and fixed to the bodywork by a set of screws. In practice, a simple key would be enough to remove the entire cover and seat belts corresponding. Additionally, it appears that the material used to make the roof is carbon fiber to ensure lightness, a solution that would solve one of the C1's biggest problems, namely the high weight and high center of gravity .

Airbags and helmet not obligatory

The carbon fiber roof must be able to absorb and dissipate the energy of a possible impact. Additionally, the structure is also equipped with a set of seat belts to prevent the driver from being thrown. We also see two airbags at shoulder height, very useful for reducing damage in the event of a side impact. Solutions which could confirm the possibility of driving the scooter even without a helmet, a convenience for “urban” users.

To prevent fogging on the windshield, BMW has thought of a small air intake capable of eliminating any condensation deposits. In short, it seems that this project is at an advanced stage of processing, the only doubts concern the BMW scooter on which this accessory would be mounted. It is easy to opt for the C 650 range and the electric C evolution, deliberately leaving aside the lighter and less expensive C 400.

When will we see it? Well-informed rumors guarantee that, at least at the concept level, the new roof BMW could already be visible this fall, when the Bavarian house presents all its new products for 2021.
