Ducati has officially inaugurated the new finishing and aesthetic resolution building at the Borgo Panigale factory in Bologna, named Finitura e Delibera, the result of a major, completely self-financed infrastructure investment. Eight million euros of investment, 4400 m² for a new green building which allows the hiring of 20 employees.

The inauguration took place in the presence of Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati, Markus Duesmann, CEO of Audi AG and President of Ducati Motor Holding SpA, Jürgen Rittersberger, CFO of Audi AG, and Matteo Lepore, Mayor of Bologna.

Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati: “This year has been truly splendid for Ducati and the inauguration of the new finishing and aesthetic resolution factory is another proud moment. This building represents an investment that brings value to the company but also to the region in which Ducati operates. The new space will host a strategic phase of production in which we will dedicate ourselves to the attention to detail and beauty of our motorcycles so that they will be perfect when they arrive at our Ducatisti enthusiasts. »

The new space will host the last phase of the production cycle, known as finishing and aesthetic deliberation, which consists of the final dressing of the motorcycle approached by Ducati with a sartorial approach and great attention to detail. It is in this stage that parts such as fairings are assembled, which are not assembled in line to avoid possible aesthetic damage due to the movement of the motorcycles. Finally, each motorcycle is carefully inspected to ensure that it is aesthetically perfect, with the aim of safeguarding the highest quality standards that distinguish Ducati.

The building occupies a total area of 4 m² and was constructed in just a few months. In fact, the work began in April 400 and ended in December of the same year. The design was developed taking into account environmental sustainability and energy efficiency criteria.

It is precisely thanks to the use of high energy performance materials, efficient technological systems and the use of renewable sources that the building was classified NZEB – Nearly Zero Energy Building, that is to say with almost zero energy needs because it is covered to a large extent by energy obtained from renewable sources.

A fundamental role is certainly played by the photovoltaic system that the building has. A 170 kWp power plant will be placed on the roof, which will produce more than 200 MWh of clean energy per year. A significant reduction in energy consumption also comes from the use of efficient air conditioning systems and natural lighting which results from the use of large glass and polycarbonate surfaces. Additionally, a cloister has been created inside the building which will house an open-air green space, further contributing to the visual well-being and natural lighting inside the building.

All artificial lighting is entrusted to a system that uses LED lamps exclusively. The plant system of the structure also includes an underground rainwater storage tank of approximately 150 m³ which guarantees the recovery of 90% of rainwater, which will be reused in internal industrial processes. Thanks to the presence near the building of the biomonitoring station which uses bees as bioindicator insects, Ducati was able to analyze the environmental impact generated by all phases of the construction of the new building.

Protecting the environment and reducing the consumption of its activities is a fundamental theme for the development and continued growth of Ducati, while being an integral part of the environmental strategy of the Volkswagen Group of which the company is part. With the inauguration of “Finitura e Delibera”, Ducati concludes a very positive 2022 which, in addition to seeing it triumph in the racing world with the double title in MotoGP and WorldSBK, has also achieved important economic and growth for the company.
