Ducati is expanding the Panigale V4 range by introducing the new numbered Panigale V4 SP version, which marks the return, after many years, of the initials “SP” (Sport Production) on the fairing of a Ducati hyper sports car.

Ducati updated the Panigale V4 only a year ago, but the Borgo Panigale factory has updated its range for 2021 to comply with Euro5 regulations, and introduce an all-new Panigale V4 SP model aimed at riders wanting a model a little less exclusive than the V4 R. First introduced on the legendary Ducati 851, this abbreviation identifies the versions which served as the basis for the development of the racing motorcycles used in the Sport Production championship, precursor of the current Superstock. Even today, at Ducati, the acronym “SP” is used to recognize a production motorcycle with specific technical equipment that makes it faster on the track.

Under the black fairing, we find the same 1103cc engine as that which equips the Panigale V4 and V4 S, developing 214hp at 13.000 rpm and 124 nm at 9.500 rpm, and the chassis is also the same as the lesser versions. exclusive. However, the SP version features the same bare alloy fuel tank used on the R model and, most notably, the Superleggera's carbon fiber wheels and fins.

The wheels are 1,4kg lighter than the forged alloy ones on the S version, and 3,4kg lighter than the base Panigale rims, but as it is a rotating and unsuspended mass, the effect should be much larger than the numbers seem to suggest.

Unlike regular Panigale V4 models, the SP version is equipped with a dry clutch (just like on the Superleggera) which the firm says works better on the track and helps ensure the engine oil stays cleaner. It also features Rizoma adjustable footrests and comes with covers to hide the holes left when you remove the mirrors and license plate during track rides. Ducati's GPS data logger is also included as standard to help improve lap times.

The Brembo Stylema R calipers are mated to a matching master cylinder that includes a left-hand lever clearance adjuster, just like MotoGP riders do.

The SP also inherits the Öhlins NIX 30 fork from the V4 S, the TTX 36 rear shock and the electronic steering damper. As you'd expect, the SP is packed with the usual electronics: cornering ABS, Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Wheelie Control, Launch Control, adaptive engine braking and Ducati QuickShift.

All motorcycles produced will be numbered and available in a single color: “Winter Test”. The combination of matte black and red highlights that was inspired by the prototypes used in MotoGP and WorldSBK during testing sessions before the start of each season.

Like the rest of the Panigale range, the 2021 models receive numerous updates: The engine now meets Euro5 emissions standards, with a modified exhaust, larger catalysts, an updated variable intake system and new settings electronic.

The riding modes of these exclusive machines have also been changed: The old "Race" setting is now split into "Race A" and "Race B", the latter limiting the torque available in the first gears to make the bike more flexible to drive.

In summary, the Panigale V4 SP is a V4 S with black paint, dry clutch, carbon wheels and components and high-end Brembo brakes. This model will be available at your Ducati dealer next March.
