The top of the sports range from Arai is currently called the RX-7V. Successor to the GP version, the fiber helmet is now complemented by a racing version promising additional aerodynamic assistance, notably via a kit approved by the FIM. We tested the 7V version for more than 10 km. Here are our conclusions.

Arai remains in line with its different ranges with a style recognizable at first glance. If the philosophy remains the same, the developments are indeed present, even if sometimes, we have the impression of playing the “game of 7 mistakes” to differentiate the model from its predecessor. As for improvements, the Japanese have worked on soundproofing, ventilation and comfort.

PROTECTION, AN OBSESSION
Premium, the brand is apart in production, once again adjusting the previous model with still the presence of external plates holding the screen. The concept remains but this time we see what we are doing. A real positive point as shown in this demo video by Arai.

A screen lock from F1 present at the state-of-the-art screen (delivered as standard with an anti-fog lens from Pinlock), flanges for emergency cheek extraction, a VAS screen fixing system (Variable Axis System) lower by 24 mm, we will also note the 20 mm and the 11% additional efficiency of the two exterior ventilation channels “Type 12”, a new interior trim with “Eco-Pure” textile covering and a shell PB-SNC² lighter by 30 grams (with a space saving of 3mm at the chin bar).

FROM THE TRACK TO THE ROAD
Checked at 1 grams (size S), the RX-581V does not disappoint us with high-end, incomparable comfort. If hearing comfort has been revised with a lower sound level (well given the new bib preventing any air entry), the headset is not a benchmark in this area, particularly with the presence of external plates at ear level but also numerous ventilations offering good efficiency performance.

Eco-Pure textile works wonders both in terms of comfort and longevity. Top. Stable, offering neutrality and excellent general balance whatever your terrain, the RX-7V still catches the eye when you are lying on your tank in track mode, no criticism on the road. A helmet capable of going from one exercise to another where other brands such as Shoei with its X-Spirit III or AGV with its Pista GR-R seem to have escaped from the paddocks...

Results
Once again Arai does wonders with comfort above the rest. If this RX-7V is less specific than the Shoei or AGV racing it gains in scope to be as much at home on the road as on the circuit. The Japanese fine-tunes the details and it works, even if some will regret the lack of big changes compared to the previous version. Sliders (ventilation and screen lock) that are easier to handle, a bib that takes its role seriously, better ventilation, the helmet is undoubtedly top of the range... with a price in line with its services...
