Last year, at the #NEXTGen event, BMW Motorrad presented the Definition CE-04 electric scooter concept. More recently, BMW Motorrad has registered the design with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, which seemed to bring him closer to production. Now, photos of a prototype that were taken in the middle of the street have leaked.

Touted as a near-production version, the scooter took inspiration from the old Concept Link and was designed to preview an upcoming production model.

The Spanish blog Releases has released images of a prototype being tested. This scooter looks a lot like the Concept CE-04 but has some modifications. Many aim to make the vehicle street-legal with the addition of mirrors, headlights and lights as well as turn signals.

Additional changes are limited, but we can see a new rear fender and a reshaped saddle. There also appear to be slight changes to some of the body panels, but the overall look remains intact.

BMW hasn't communicated much about the CE-04 lately, but when the vehicle was presented, the German company clarified that the scooters are not "fun" self-wheelers but rather practical vehicles for everyday life. As a result, the scooter was designed to be user-friendly and appeal to city dwellers who only travel 12 km per day.

This scooter features a low battery and a compact powertrain. This allowed designers to integrate a lighted storage compartment that could be used to hold a helmet and other gear on the CE-04. The scooter is also equipped with a 10,25-inch digital dashboard and, judging by the photos, it will remain on the production model.

No information is available at this time regarding technical specifications or release date, but given the target audience, power and autonomy will undoubtedly take a back seat after usability and comfort.
