The 2017 Supersport world champion Lucas Mahias happily took part in an awareness campaign initiated by the municipality of Mont-de-Marsan in association with the Landes prefecture and National Education.

The French pilot intends to make moped riders and motorcyclists understand that a helmet dropped from a height of one meter is no longer effective.

Young high school students are particularly targeted… « the high school students I see throwing their helmets next to their backpacks”, explains Lucas Mahias. « As I remember, when we had prevention campaigns in middle or high school, it was often elderly people who came. We said to ourselves, “He’s old, he’s outdated,” and suddenly there was 50% less attention. This is a young person speaking to young people.”

We are not sure that Lucas Mahias will be considered a young person by high school students but will have brought it with his world champion title and natural charisma

of the Yamaha rider, as well as his experience in the field of falls, should bring a certain effectiveness to this totally justified campaign.

“The helmet, for a biker, is the only bodywork. The problem is that after a fall, even from a meter high, you think you are wearing a helmet, but it's as if you didn't have one. » illustrates and the monois concludes: “If we can save even one kid because he wore a helmet in good condition, then it will be a win! ".
