The Italian brand was established in 1930 but folded in 2011 and spent almost a decade in limbo before being acquired and somewhat revived by Austrian company KSR Group in 2018. Most of the current models of the company are essentially rebadged Piaggio group products. However, things are about to change, with Malaguti in the midst of developing a new model.

Named Drakon, Malaguti first revealed it as a concept during EICMA 2019. While the concept presented then used an original Derbi chassis, the production version recently spotted undergoing road tests suggests the opposite.

The typical Malaguti designs appear to be retained, but the chassis has been revised to accommodate a new 125cc DOHC powerplant with an under-engine exhaust.

Also new are the passenger footrests, as well as road-legal elements such as the swingarm-mounted license plate holder, front and rear lights, and rear-view mirrors.

With the Drakon, Malaguti will mark its properly relaunched entry as an independent manufacturer. The final version of this model should be revealed at the next edition of EICMA.
