R-Series: the supersport range without compromise
The year 2018 marks the 20e anniversary of the YZF-R1, one of the most influential motorcycles ever released by Yamaha. Uncompromisingly designed, the first R1 had the engine performance of a competition motorcycle and a new level of handling, opening a new era in the design of supersport machines.
The supersport range has expanded to four models, all at the forefront of their category and responding to the same philosophy as the YZF-R1 – a machine of unfailing success over time.
For 2019, Yamaha presents the new YZF-R3, whose radical look is inspired by the YZR-M1. It is equipped with new technologies that improve its performance, as well as more suitable ergonomics. Thanks to the new YZF-R125 which has just been revealed and the current YZF-R6, YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M, the R series constitutes the most complete range of sports cars. Welcome to the world of R-Series
Yamaha continues a long tradition of developing motorcycles with optimal performance on the track and on the road. From the YZF-R125 to the YZF-R1M, each allows its rider, whatever their level, to enjoy pure moments of exhilaration.
New YZF-R3 2019
Powered by a 321cc twin-cylinder engine, the new 3 YZF-R2019 is a lightweight, no-nonsense motorcycle with Yamaha's R-Series DNA. With its accessible saddle height and ergonomic riding position, the new YZF-R3 is a compact, flexible and agile machine.
Engine and chassis
At the heart of the YZF-R3 is a 4cc, liquid-cooled, 321-stroke, inline-twin, dual overhead camshaft, 4-valve fuel-injected engine. Utilizing the latest combustion technology, adapting forged aluminum pistons and all-aluminum DiASil cylinders with an offset design, the YZF-R3 engine produces easy-to-handle power.
A tubular steel chassis of proven design uses the engine casing as an integral part, thus ensuring a perfect balance between rigidity and weight. The long, asymmetrical swingarm ensures efficient transmission of engine power to the rear wheel and provides excellent straight-line stability. The Monocross rear suspension is accompanied by a KYB shock absorber with preload adjustment, ensuring stability and optimum mass centering.
Combined with the all-new inverted fork, all-new triple clamps, 10-spoke cast aluminum rims, 298mm front disc with two-piston floating caliper, 32-degree turning radius at the handlebars, height 780 mm saddle width and almost equal weight distribution between front and rear, the YZF-R3 chassis is responsive and agile.
All-new aluminum inverted fork and triple clamps typical of the R series
To achieve the perfect balance between comfort and sporting performance, the 3 YZF-R2019 is equipped with an all-new 37 mm diameter KYB inverted fork. By offering a larger contact surface between the inner and outer tubes than on a conventional fork, this inverted model considerably promotes stiffness, precision, feel, while maintaining a high level of comfort.
Coupled with new aluminum triple clamps, this package offers the rider great maneuverability when cornering and braking. The new inverted fork also improves the overall specification of the YZF-R3, which is more in line with the premium appearance of the R family.
New tank design and lowered handlebar position
The YZF-R3's rideability improves on the 2019 version thanks to its new tank design, as well as a handlebar position lowered by 22 mm. The fuel capacity remains at 14 liters, but its new shape (31,4 mm wider above the knees and 20 mm lower at the fuel cap) accentuates the feeling of unity between the rider and his machine. .
Whether roaming the city, sticking the nose in the bubble in a straight line or taking angles in turns, the handling of the YZF-R3 allows the rider to take full advantage of its potential. performance in very different situations.
New aerodynamic front fairing and bubble design
The new YZF-R3 features a front fairing and screen that pay homage to the MotoGP M1,® an aggressive look that comes with improved aerodynamic performance.
Developed in the wind tunnel and on the track, the new assembly composed of the fairing and the screen reduces aerodynamic resistance by 7%, allowing a reduction in turbulence around the helmet in the prone position and an increase in maximum speed of up to 8 km/h. The M1-inspired central air intake also serves to direct flow to the radiator, contributing to better engine cooling.
Other new features
New YZF-R1-inspired dual-LED headlights and position lights complement the aggressive look of the front fairing. A new LCD dashboard displays essential data, readable at a glance. The lightweight 10-spoke rims are shod with radial tires, giving the YZF-R3 rider the best possible grip.
