In May 2021, Norton Motorcycles acting CEO John Russell informed V4 SS owners that there were serious problems with this model. In fact, no less than 35 defects have been identified, 20 of them being what Norton considers to be critical elements. The brand has issued a “stop-ride” notice, urging owners not to use their V4 SS until these issues have been resolved.

On June 28, 2021, Norton's new CEO Robert Hentschel sent a letter to all V4 SS owners. While the interim CEO's previous letter indicated that Norton was exploring ways to support repairs of faulty V4 SSs - and also repeatedly stated that it had no legal obligation to do so - this new letter from Robert Hentschel says Norton no longer finds this action feasible. This, he says, is because Norton “is unable to reliably source all necessary parts from NMUL suppliers – Norton Motorcycle UK Limited, the former legal name of the brand. »

Instead, Norton Motorcycles is currently creating a completely redesigned V4 SS model, which it plans to sell shortly, emphasizing that these would not be modifications of the previous V4 SS. Once NMUL's liquidation is complete, Robert Hentschel said Norton plans to offer owners of the defective V4 SS a special offer to acquire a new, completely revamped V4 SS model. To date, there is no exact production date for this model, which should take place at the end of 2021.

Additionally, Robert Hentschel indicated that any legal liability for defects in older V4s lies with NMUL. He further said that owners should be in touch with NMUL liquidators regarding settlement of their claims.
