Direct to the MAX.

Europe's most popular sports scooter, the TMAX has continued to evolve and improve for 20 years to meet the changing needs of thousands of users.

The 2022 TMAX benefits from a radical new Supersport-inspired design, a new, more compact fascia, as well as redesigned wheels and suspension that deliver sharper handling.

It is also Yamaha's smartest and most premium sport scooter, equipped with a connected 7-inch color TFT dashboard offering full-mapped Garmin* navigation. Sportier, thinner and smarter, the TMAX and TMAX Tech MAX 8e generation provide the ultimate driving experience.

Rediscover the essence of the TMAX

The world of two wheels changed forever when the first TMAX was unveiled in 2001. No one had seen anything like it before. It was already an extraordinary machine, remaining accessible but offering exhilarating performance, capable of high cruising speed over long distances and with incomparable everyday convenience. Many thought it was impossible to create a hybrid vehicle that would bring together the best of both worlds, scooter and motorcycle.

Since the company's founding, Yamaha designers have built a reputation for creating the world's most exciting and radical concepts, capable of opening up new segments in the market. For example, we can cite the Deltabox frame technology which completely transformed the supersports scene in the 1980s, or the Yamaha models that won the Dakar 40 years ago and which promoted the popularization of adventure motorcycles, a category still in vogue today.

So when the world witnessed the launch of the original TMAX – and with it the birth of a new category 20 years ago – very few people were surprised that this first sports scooter was from Yamaha Motor Company.

Sportier performance, more dynamic style and more connected technologies

The 2022 TMAX remains true to the original concept that made this revolutionary machine one of Yamaha's best-selling models. It is the very special combination of a powerful twin-cylinder engine rigidly mounted in a lightweight chassis and superbly designed bodywork that makes the TMAX a permanent success.

Since its launch in 2001, this revolutionary Yamaha has been the best-selling sports scooter every year. And the new model has even higher specifications that should strengthen its position as the market leader. Attracting a loyal and knowledgeable European customer base, the TMAX always offers an exhilarating riding experience, in addition to Yamaha's exceptional quality, comfort and practicality.

New compact and dynamic exterior

The new TMAX body has never been so compact: a radically new face with sharply styled sides, prominent angular air intakes and slimmer dual LED headlights with integrated turn signals give an even closer look Supersport models.

Although you recognize the iconic TMAX at first glance, almost every body panel and exterior element has been redesigned for 2022, to create a dynamic and incisive look that will inevitably draw favorable comparisons with some major supersports of today. This is precisely what makes the TMAX popular with European riders: it offers the best of both worlds by combining the high-speed performance, stability and sporty handling of a motorcycle, with the simplicity and ease of use of a scooter.

In addition to its bold new front, the TMAX is equipped with a brand new screen which helps to reinforce its new compact look and promotes driving pleasure. Additionally, the much thinner center section improves rider mobility. The new, more flowing rear section and its T-shaped taillight emphasize its pure and sporty lines, while the new boomerangs and redesigned panels blend in with the rest of the bodywork. In line with previous TMAXs, the 2022 model has a determined, contemporary and attractive appearance.

Color Extreme Yellow

To pay homage to the first model, the new TMAX will be available in Extreme Yellow. This bold color will always be associated with the first version and it perfectly symbolizes the dynamic and playful spirit of the number one scooter in Europe. Also available in Icon Blue and Sword Grey.

Connected 7-inch color TFT dashboard

The new TMAX evolves significantly thanks to its connected 7-inch color TFT screen, the best in its category, which displays a wide range of easily readable information. Pilots can choose one of three display styles according to personal preference. All three displays feature a central digital speedometer; The Sporty style features a radial block tachometer, while the Smart style features a more subtle needle tachometer and the Authentic style features a more classic-looking needle tachometer.

Each display incorporates a wide range of operating information. The Intelligent style uniquely integrates an animated visualizer that constantly changes appearance to improve the feeling of harmony between the rider and their machine and bring an extra dimension to each journey.

Smartphone connectivity

TMAX riders can connect their smartphone to the 7-inch color display via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or the USB port located in the waterproof front storage compartment, which also has a dedicated smartphone holder.

Once the smartphone is connected, the pilot can use the joystick and the home button on the left comodo to select each function: play music, receive notifications, check the local weather and more. A Bluetooth-connected headset** is required to listen to music or answer calls, and it is possible to view text messages when the TMAX is parked.

Full-mapped Garmin* navigation

The new connected TMAX allows riders to access the Garmin navigation system and voice guidance via a Bluetooth-connected headset** paired with the TMAX. This system provides real-time traffic information and offers bypass options to shorten travel times. Garmin PhotoReal Junction View realistically presents intersections and interchanges along the route for easy navigation. A bright colored arrow alerts the TMAX driver to the correct lane to enter the next exit.

Garmin Alerts provide a wide range of information about possible hazards along the way, including sharp turns, speed limits, nearby schools and more. The fuel tracking feature estimates the remaining range before refueling and suggests places to stop. The TMAX's full-mapped Garmin navigation also displays real-time weather conditions as well as today's forecast, making it a valuable addition to every journey.

The 7-inch color TFT display presents clear, easy-to-read navigation information, while still displaying machine operating data at the top and sides of the screen. The app can be launched and menus selected via the joystick on the handlebars.

Lightweight SpinForged rims

The sporty and incisive handling of the TMAX is further advanced thanks to new lightweight 10-spoke SpinForged rims, manufactured using exclusive Yamaha technology: a process that allows the production of rims with much thinner sections while retaining the same resistance. These new lighter rims reduce unsprung weight for more responsive suspensions. The moment of inertia is reduced by around 10% at the front and 6% at the rear, for more incisive road behavior and greater maneuverability.

New suspension settings and new Bridgestone tires

Equipped with a premium 41mm inverted fork and a rear link shock, the TMAX offers excellent handling properties and stability, whatever the speed. This new TMAX has refined suspension settings for increased front axle stability and agility. To do this, the damping force has been increased to provide a greater feeling of firmness from the suspension.

The TMAX's sporty handling and high-speed stability are also enhanced by the use of new Bridgestone Battlax SC2 tires, specific to Yamaha's SpinForged rims and new suspension settings.

Sportier driving position

Modified, the driving position better allows the driver to benefit from the sporting potential of the TMAX, its powerful 5 cc EURO560 engine and the lightweight aluminum chassis. The contact points of the “saddle-footrest-handlebar” triangle have been moved to create a slightly more forward-leaning body position. To achieve this, we used a new forged aluminum handlebar with reduced rearward tilt and lower upward tilt, as well as a longer main saddle and longer footboards that provide plenty of freedom of movement.

This sportier riding position and the new shape of the handlebars offer the rider a better feel of the front axle, which allows him to feel more connected to the road. Of very good quality, the forged aluminum handlebars underline the high-end finish and specifications of the successful scooter.

Adjustable pilot backrest

Longer, the main saddle incorporates a rider backrest adjustable from front to back by 30 mm, for additional support during acceleration and increased comfort during long journeys. In addition to the longer running boards and new handlebars, the larger saddle improves ergonomics and allows riders with different physiques to find their ideal riding position. It is suitable for different postures and various driving conditions.

The TMAX's thinner center section and narrower thigh saddle make it easier to put your feet on the ground. For increased passenger comfort on long journeys, the footrests have been lowered by 5 mm and the position of the passenger seat has been raised by 15 mm.

New adjustable compact bubble, reduced peripheral noise

The TMAX is equipped with a new adjustable screen which contributes to its more compact body design. One of the main features of the new screen is its central air intake to reduce wind pressure on the upper body at high speeds, for greater comfort and driving pleasure. This new bubble design reduces wind noise and helps improve the acoustics of the new model, allowing the rider to take advantage of various audio services from their smartphone when using a Bluetooth headset paired with the TMAX.

YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) electronic throttle opening control with APSG

The TMAX features Ride-by-Wire technology in the form of a sophisticated new APSG (Accelerator Position Sensor Grip) throttle grip linked to the proven Electronic Throttle Control (YCC-T) system. . Replacing the traditional cable and pulley system, this new APSG system features a magnet and sensor that detect throttle inputs and transmit the data to the YCC-T.

Lightweight, this model features a spring, slide and gear that provide varying degrees of resistance, providing excellent control and the intuitive feel of a traditional throttle cable.

Supersport-style headlights and T-shaped taillight

The aesthetics and road behavior of the TMAX 2022 bring it even closer to the motorcycle world. Its new aggressive front end does not stand out when placed in the middle of those of the R-series Supersport models.

Thinner, the new dual-lens LED headlights feature monofocal lenses that project a bright beam of light for excellent visibility day and night. Turn signals are integrated into this compact and sporty design for a refined look, in keeping with its high-end finish.

The rear view of the TMAX is just as impressive as the front. The new T-shaped light is exclusive, and the integrated indicators reinforce the general presence of the model.

5 cc high-performance EURO560 engine

The original TMAX was the first scooter to combine the performance of a motorcycle with the comfort of a scooter. For 20 years, it has been characterized by unparalleled driving pleasure and technologies, the best sports package in this category for European drivers.

One of the main features of the 560 cc parallel twin engine remains its 360-degree crankshaft with a mechanism for balancing the pistons in horizontal opposition. Used on no other motorcycle or scooter, this unique design helps cancel vibrations without the aid of a conventional rotary balancing system, significantly reducing engine height and allowing the use of storage space larger under the saddle. By adopting this configuration exclusive to the TMAX, Yamaha engineers were able to create a powerful, compact and flexible engine, ideal qualities for a sports scooter.

The original TMAX was also the first sports scooter with an engine rigidly mounted in a tubular chassis, a key feature allowing riders to experience motorcycle-like performance for the first time.

Distinctive exhaust note

The TMAX is renowned for its sound, with a characteristic clear and deep exhaust note. Its distinctive tone enhances driving pleasure and creates a direct connection between rider and engine.

Thanks to a 360-degree crankshaft and a horizontally opposed piston balancing mechanism, the TMAX's engine configuration is mechanically quiet. During the evolution of the 560 cc engine, attention was paid to creating a sound harmony that complements and enhances the sporty character of the TMAX. This clear, deep sound conveys a feeling of power at low revs, while the intensity increases with the throttle, for an exhilarating and satisfying drive at any speed.

Electronic contactor with “Smart Key” and new control switches

The electronic contactor allows the rider to access his scooter as long as he has the smart key. And for 2022, the TMAX goes even further with its new switches that simplify the entire process. A new central switch brings together a large number of functions so that the rider can now turn the ignition on/off, activate the main switch and handlebar steering lock, as well as open the saddle with fewer operational steps.

Electrically operated fuel cap inspired by a refueling cap

The TMAX is the first Yamaha scooter or motorcycle to be equipped with an aviation-style smart fuel cap. Within two minutes of switching off the ignition, it opens automatically after lifting its latch. This recessed fuel cap is accessible at any time as long as the user has the smart key and the steering lock or center stand lock is active. An audible alarm also sounds when the fuel cap is not properly closed after switching on the ignition.
