New Yamaha R6 RACE 2021

The racing machines developed by Yamaha have achieved victories in all competitions, in the MotoGP World Championship, in Superbike, but also in the various national events. Since its launch in 1999, the Yamaha R6 has always been a benchmark in the Supersport category. In 2021, an R6 Race will be available in a non-homologated version exclusively, while an R6 RACE GYTR Stage 1 kit will be offered from January 2021 to provide the ultimate track experience.

A competing story
On its second outing, the Yamaha R6 won a round of the 1999 FIM Supersport World Championship at Donington Park thanks to rider Jamie Whitham. And since then, she has driven drivers such as Jörg Teuchert, Cal Crutchlow, Chaz Davies, Sam Lowes, Lucas Mahias, Sandro Cortese and Randy Krummenacher to the world title. This year, Andrea Locatelli joins the list after a record-breaking season on the R6, which continues to prove to be the best choice in WorldSSP. The enthusiasm for the R6 is also widely shared by track driving enthusiasts and drivers competing in national championships.

Yamaha R6 RACE
The marketing of the approved version of the R6 will be interrupted next year. Yamaha will focus its efforts on an ultimate track machine, the R6 RACE, sold at a low price to allow riders to enter the national championships in the Supersport category. These customers will be able to decide the level of preparation of their motorcycle in order to improve their on-track experience.

The R6 RACE is equipped with a 599 cc, four-cylinder, twin-camshaft, liquid-cooled engine with titanium valves. Its Deltabox aluminum frame benefits from many years of Grand Prix development. It incorporates a magnesium rear loop that promotes front-to-rear weight distribution, while the high-performance KYB fork and KYB rear shock optimize handling and cornering behavior. It also features traction control, D-Mode and Yamaha's Ride-by-Wire electronic throttle control system for optimal responsiveness.

The non-homologated R6 RACE will be available at Yamaha dealers from January 2021.

GYTR Stage 1 kit
For more than 40 years, Yamaha Technology Racing (GYTR®) service engineers have created accessories that take advantage of cutting-edge technologies and deliver exceptional performance. Developed in close collaboration with racing teams and test riders, a wide range of Yamaha components, parts and racing kits help improve motorcycle performance.

The GYTR Stage 1 kit, available at Yamaha dealers, makes the R6 RACE a race-ready motorcycle, benefiting from a range of exclusive performance upgrades. It includes a GYTR electronics pack incorporating a lightweight wiring harness and a programmable ECU that allows the motorcycle to be configured to optimize engine performance. The AIS (Air Intake System) allows the R6 RACE to benefit from optimal air intake which boosts its power. Its Akrapovič exhaust line, in titanium, is specially designed to optimize engine power and considerably reduce the weight of the machine.

The easy-to-install WSS racing fairing helps reduce drag and improve straight-line speed and handling. To respond to the increase in power, the brakes have also been improved and benefit from new stainless steel hoses offering better feel on the handlebars and better sensation when decelerating. The GYTR ABS Emulator allows the ABS pump to be removed for further weight reduction. Other FIM required parts are fitted, such as the front brake lever guards and rear sprocket guard, while the rear stand hooks provide greater efficiency when removing the wheel.

The GYTR Stage 1 kit developed for the R6 RACE includes the following racing parts:
• Complete GYTR fairing
• Complete Akrapovič exhaust system
