According to estimates from the National Interministerial Road Safety Observatory (ONISR), 263 people died on the roads in September 2021 in mainland France, compared to 266 in September 2020, i.e. 3 fewer people killed, and 310 in September 2019, i.e. 47 fewer deaths (-15%).

The drop compared to 2019 mainly concerns motorists, pedestrians, motorcyclists and moped riders: 387 motorists, 95 pedestrians, 201 motorcyclists and 27 moped riders were killed in the 3rd quarter of 2021, representing respective drops of -10%, -14%. , -10% and -41% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Cyclist mortality is comparable to that of September 2019 (21 killed, one more person) and significantly lower than that of September 2020 (37 killed, or 16 fewer people).
