With 200 post-parking passes (FPS) issued against thermal two-wheelers since September, three months after the entry into force of paid parking for these vehicles in Paris, “the results are very positive », according to Paris City Hall. 000 is more than a quarter of the number of two-wheelers registered in Paris and the inner suburbs (estimated at more than 200)... Electric two-wheelers are exempt from this paid parking. Does the French capital give an unfair advantage to electric vehicles?

Motorcycle and scooter drivers in Paris are protesting against the decision to make them pay for parking. In fact, the authorities of the capital have implemented fees for motorized two-wheelers since Thursday September 1: €3 per hour for motorcycles in the center of Paris and €2 in the outlying districts. Residents can pay €22,50 for an annual card which entitles them to a rate of €0,75 per day.

City says change is needed to meet “climate and public health issues. »

Regarding those who have to pay, the City estimated that 40% of motorized two-wheeler drivers paid their parking fee in October. At three months, this payment rate " stay fixed ", we tell the municipality. “But it should increase in the coming weeks or months”, we want to believe at Paris City Hall.

With fines ranging from €25 to €37,5, the Town Hall has issued more than 5 million euros in fines. In addition to the desire to enforce payment for parking, she mentions “more in-depth work is being carried out on the fight against illegal parking, and in particular nuisance parking” — the only reason that justifies vehicle removal. Since September, around 5 motorized two-wheelers have been removed and impounded due to illegal parking.

Paris City Hall estimates that “fewer thermal scooters and motorcycles” and “more and more electric scooters are circulating” make this transition obvious. Coupled with other Parisian regulations, it promotes the idea that “the thermal writes the last chapter of its life” in the French capital.

This is not Paris's only crackdown against thermally powered two-wheelers either, since in January 2022, the city expanded testing of its noise-cancelling radar systems.
