Riding a motorbike is obviously the most fun way to enjoy your two-wheeler, but riders who choose to transport their motorbike between Europe and the UK have been faced with some annoying fallout from Brexit. According to the Federation of European Motorcycle Associations (FEMA), there appears to be confusion over what constitutes a temporary importation situation – and motorcyclists are being hit with heavy taxes and customs duties as a result.

Due to Brexit, transporting a motorcycle from Europe to England or vice versa has become a decidedly expensive endeavor for many due to taxes and customs duties. We are not talking, of course, about manufacturers and sellers, for whom we would have to make another more complicated speech, but about individuals who, to participate in a rally or perhaps for practical reasons with a view to a more long, wanted to have their motorcycle transported on trucks and vans instead of riding in the saddle. As a result of England's exit from the European Union, the increase in costs, it must be said, is not the same for all countries and, often, also varies depending on the interpretations of the legislation, which are quite varied and far from homogeneous.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a breakdown in communication over situations like this – and it's plaguing both EU and UK travelers who want to cross borders from one location to another. This is why FEMA, along with the International Federation of Vintage Vehicles (FIVA) and the National Motorcyclists Council (NMC), have all written a letter to the European Commission asking for both clarification and reasonable and fair treatment.
