After missing the Most and MotorLand Aragón rounds due to shoulder injuries sustained in Hungary at the beginning of May, Miguel Oliveira is ready to get back on the #88 BMW M 1000 RR of the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team this weekend at Misano, where the seventh round of the Superbike World Championship 2026.
After securing four podium finishes aboard the BMW M 1000 RR in his debut WorldSBK season, Oliveira saw his momentum halted during the fourth round at Balaton Park. The Portuguese rider was involved in an incident during the Superpole Race, suffering a fractured scapula.
Over the following weeks, he underwent an intensive rehabilitation program in his native Portugal. Having already been present in Aragón last weekend to support his team, he now says he is ready to return to competition at Misano. As is customary in WorldSBK, however, the final decision will be made after the medical examination on site.
Petrucci still out, van der Mark switches sides in the box
His teammate Danilo Petrucci He will remain absent. The Italian is still suffering from a fractured coccyx sustained in Most. Although his recovery is progressing very well, it has been mutually agreed to grant him an additional week of rest. Petrucci will nevertheless be present in Misano to support the team.
Consequently, Michael van der Mark He will switch sides in the garage and reunite with the technical team that supported him for five seasons as a full-time rider. The BMW test rider and EWC factory rider, who replaced Oliveira at Most and Aragón, will this time take Petrucci's place at Misano.
Sven Blusch, Director of BMW Motorrad Motorsport: “We are very pleased that Miguel’s recovery has progressed so favorably that we can now consider his return to Misano. After a difficult few weeks, it’s back to normal for us. We thank everyone who contributed to Miguel’s recovery from his injury.”
Danilo and I have agreed to wait a little longer. He's already feeling much better, but we don't want to rush anything. He will, however, be with us at Misano and will support the team as much as possible.
Mickey will continue to race for us as a reserve rider. He already did an excellent job at Most and Aragón, and I'm convinced that his victory with the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team at the Spa 8 Hours Motos last weekend will give him even more momentum.
Miguel Oliveira9th in the championship with 85 points
: “I can’t wait to get back with the team and get back on my BMW M 1000 RR. Returning to Misano was the goal I set throughout my rehabilitation, and I’m happy to be able to achieve that. Earlier this week, I also rode a production bike during a track day to assess my fitness and get some track time back.”
I would like to thank everyone who has supported me during this time: my family, the medical team, the team itself, and all the fans who have sent me messages of encouragement.
Of course, I know the challenge ahead. The level of competition is extremely high, and I'm still getting back to my full physical condition.
My priority this weekend will be to get back into my rhythm, regain confidence on the bike, and continue to improve session after session. The rest will come with time and hard work.
The seventh round of the 2026 WorldSBK World Championship at Misano will take place from 12 to 14 June.
