Even before it takes place, the 2017 edition of the Superprestigio which will take place on December 16 in the Palau Sant Jordi arena in Barcelona is characterized by a negative point, the absence of Marc Márquez, and a positive point, the strong presence of French pilots.
If we can only regret the first, the Honda driver having left his mark on previous editions by winning the finals of 2014 and 2016, the presence of Johann Zarco, Lucas Mahias, Fabio Quartararo and Vincent Philippe in the Superprestigio category (Gregg Black lining up under the British colors), and Thomas Chareyre, Wilfried Delestre and Sylvain Bidart in the Open category will only delight French enthusiasts.
However, the French drivers will have a hard time facing the American specialists in the category who are JD Beach et Brian Bauman, but also a surprising Tony Elias, second of the 2016 edition
Brad Baker, double winner of the event, will be absent following an injury during the season: " I am really disappointed. This would have been my fifth time competing there, so it stings and I will definitely miss it. I made some great friends there, got to practice a lot there, and the event itself is awesome. As soon as I knew I couldn't do it, I suggested JD and Briar to the promoter. The small [17-inch] wheels and road racing rain tires take a little getting used to. But knowing these two, and how talented and versatile they are, I'm sure they will represent the American track world well. »
