The battle was of extraordinary intensity from the first day of free practice with a fierce fight right up to the checkered flag. Randy Krummenacher preceded Lucas Mahias by 0.02, Sandro Cortese by 0.05, Federico Caricasulo by 0.07 and Jules Cluzel by 0.1.

Cluzel did not fail to launch a big attack, and he has every chance of qualifying during the Superpole for the first row of the starting grid.

In the provisional ranking of the World Championship, Randy Krummenacher and Lucas Mahias are tied for first with 45 points each, which promises us a spectacle for Sunday. The fight for third position will be no less interesting, with 29 points for Federico Caricasulo and the same for Sandro Cortese.

Press release: A difficult first day for Loris Baz in Spain

The Frenchman took 13th time in the combined standings at MotorLand Aragón despite the rain disrupting the hostilities.

The WorldSBK riders met on Friday near Alcañiz in Spain to kick off the first European event of the calendar on the emblematic Aragón circuit. A wet track awaited Loris Baz and the Althea BMW Racing team during the opening session, but the Frenchman was quick to find his feet by setting the seventh fastest time.

Taking advantage of the second dry session to lower his reference time, the Haut-Savoyard, who is not yet fully comfortable riding his BMW S1000RR, did not manage to keep his place in the Top 10. The rain, which was once again among the protagonists in the middle of the afternoon, also did not allow him to reach Superpole 2 straight away.

Loris Baz, forced to go through the repechage on Saturday, nevertheless says he is optimistic about his chances of being among the top five in the first race, which will start at 13 p.m. (local time).

Loris Baz (13th – 1'52.678) :

“The track was wet this morning, but the session went pretty well. I didn't have a good feeling during the first laps, but we improved with each outing to finish in seventh position, which is really positive. FP2 turned out to be more complicated. I didn't have enough grip and confidence. We managed to progress by putting on the soft tire in the last minutes. I struggled a lot with the bike to ride the way I wanted and we weren't able to stay in the Top 10. We knew the weather was going to be difficult in the afternoon, but we didn't want to pass a new tire from the start, because I had adjustments to evaluate. It was a complicated day, like since the first event in Australia, but I try to stay positive and find solutions to turn a corner. I hope to win my place in Superpole 2 and get as close as possible to the Top 5 in the race. We are still far from it, but we will try to climb the ladder little by little, that's the most important thing. I don't have enough feeling with the rear yet to be comfortable. »
