The penultimate round of the Supersport World Championship will take place this weekend in Jerez de la Frontera, before the final which will take place in Losail on November 5. Lucas Mahias can be crowned this weekend because he currently has 154 points, compared to 145 for Kenan Sofuoglu, 122 for Sheridan Morais and 115 for Jules Cluzel.

The Turkish champion fractured his pelvis in three places at Magny-Cours earlier this month. He will therefore not ride this week in Andalusia, where he will be replaced by Axel Bassani. On the other hand, he intends to participate in the last race of the Championship which will take place in Qatar. His replacement for Jerez Axel Bassani won the European Supersport 600 Championship in 2016. His teammate this weekend will be Anthony West.

According to Lucas Mahias, “I'm really happy to arrive in Jerez. I really like this track and I won my first race there outside of France in CEV Moto2.

“The track is suited to my driving style and I love driving here, I can't wait to hit the track on my R6.

“There is a lot of talk about the championship and what can and cannot happen, so I will try to approach the race weekend normally and give everything to win. »

For Manuel Puccetti, team manager of Kawasaki Puccetti Racing, “ In Supersport, the drivers' title already seems impossible to win, but we are not giving up on the teams' title. Canducci, Bassani and West will try to enter the top 5 on Sunday.”

This weekend will also be the opportunity to see the return of Sylvain Guintoli to the Superbike World Championship, for the last two races on a Puccetti Kawasaki.

And finally congratulations to PJ Jacobsen, official MV Agusta pilot, who has just married his long-time fiancée Danielle Little (photo below)
