It's a new tragedy that is shaking the world of motorcycle racing. On Sunday, during the Supersport 300 race of the Andalusian Championship, the young 14-year-old driver Marcos Garrido lost his life. Last year, Andreas Perez, another 14-year-old boy participating in the CEV race had also paid with his life for his passion for motorcycles.
Marcos Garrido, driver of CD Cardoso Racing, had a terrible accident during the day at the Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto. During the first Supersport 300 race of the Andalusian Championship season, he was involved in a double crash where he was hit by another motorcycle.
The race immediately stopped and ambulances entered the track, transferring the driver and another driver involved in the crash, who did not suffer serious injuries, to Jerez Hospital. He arrived in critical condition where, unfortunately, as a result of the injuries sustained, he died in the afternoon around 18 p.m.
The Andalusian Motorcycling Federation expressed its grief at the end of this fatal event through its social networks: “ during the SP 300 race at the Jerez circuit, the Rota driver, Marcos Garrido Beltrán, suffered a fall following which the circuit's medical services quickly intervened. They decided to urgently transfer him to Jerez General Hospital, where he died almost an hour after being admitted. On behalf of the FAM and the entire CIV organization, our most sincere condolences are expressed to all the family and friends ».
