Sylvain Barrier, rider of the Scheibe Racing BMW S1000RR in the MotoAmerica Superbike Championship, is recovering in a hospital in Georgia after suffering a crash and serious injuries during practice for the Road Atlanta race.
Barrier was driving his BMW during the third free practice session of Race 2 when he crashed entering the second corner and hit an Airfence at high speed.
According to information from RoadRacingWorld.com, Sylvain remained temporarily unconscious. He suffered several fractured ribs and suffered a problem with his spleen, according to MotoAmerica's Raymond Rizzo.
The Frenchman was taken to a local hospital where he underwent surgery to stop internal bleeding.
He then remained in hospital for observation, but should be released soon.

The day before his accident, the local press wrote: “ Frenchman Sylvain Barrier was impressive on his very first day at Road Atlanta, provisionally ranked sixth in 1'26.572 on his Scheibe Racing BMW S1000RR Superbike. “
