Faced with engineers whose imagination is always fertile, the Grand Prix Commission had already taken the necessary measures to ban all aerodynamic support from next year. Understand the fins and odd fairing shapes that might appear.

And the measure is essential since, ultimately, the final decision is not based on well-determined technical elements, but on the sole opinion of the MotoGP Technical Director, Danny Aldridge.

Another measure was adopted in Motegi, effective from 2017: manufacturers will only be able to present a fairing and a mudguard at the first Grand Prix of the year, and will only be entitled to only one update during the season. This measurement is valid “per driver” and not per manufacturer. It is motivated by the desire to contain MotoGP development costs.

Technical Regulations MotoGP Class Aerodynamic Evolution – Effective 2017
In the interests of cost saving there will be a limit on the number of upgrades that a manufacturer can make to the design of their fairing or front mudguard during the season. Initial designs will be approved by the Technical Director at the first event of the season. Thereafter, only one upgrade of the fairing and one upgrade of the front mudguard is permitted in that season. The restriction will apply “per rider” and not per make of motorcycle.
