During the last two races in Austria, it was not only in the MotoGP category that KTM made aerodynamic developments. The Mattighofen teams also introduced this rear wheel cover for their drivers. With Moto3 prototypes only making around 65 hp, every little speed advantage you can find could make a difference.

The rear wheel cover helps “clean” the airflow around the rear end of the machine by limiting the turbulence created by the rear wheel as it turns. The goal is to make the bike more aerodynamic. Although the gains from the rear wheel cover are only very, very small, it could make that 1% difference you need in a category where it's not uncommon to see the Top15 standing in less than 'a second.
