Is it really possible for any rider to use the same protection technology as professional riders competing in the MotoGP World Championship? The fact is that on the circuit, the 2020 World Champion, Joan Mir, wears equipment accessible to everyone, from head to toe.

A revolutionary helmet

The helmet worn by all AGV drivers in the World Championship paddock is the Pista GP RR. It is unmatched in terms of impact protection, weight, aerodynamic penetration, wide field of vision and ventilation. The developments carried out by the AGV R&D department have allowed the Pista GP RR to pass the rigorous tests required for FIM certification already in its standard version, without any modifications.

Before the 2020 MotoGP World Championship, the Pista GP RR helmet, in its various evolutions, had already reached the top step of the podium on several occasions. First in 2013 with Pol Espargaro in Moto2, then in 2017 with Joan Mir in Moto3 and Franco Morbidelli in Moto2, and in 2018 with Francesco Bagnaia in Moto2. In 2020, the Pista GP RR became the fastest helmet in the MotoGP Championship.

Well-protected hands

The Dainese Full Metal 6 gloves are the most sophisticated hand protections for motorcycles, developed in collaboration with the best MotoGP riders. They use cutting-edge materials such as goatskin on the palm for maximum softness, carbon fiber and titanium on the back for maximum protection and aramid fiber in the seams for durability. abrasion against the asphalt.

The sleeve and finger area are pre-shaped to follow the natural curvature of the joints in the riding position. This is essential to reduce fatigue and optimize performance. In this way, the rider does not have to strain the wrist and fingers to bend the glove and grip the handlebars correctly.

From head to toes !

In the late 90s, Dainese introduced the first motorcycle boot to be worn inside the suit. Thinner, lighter and more aerodynamic, it not only offers better protection against impacts, but also helps prevent the dreaded fractures and sprains. The Axial D1 boot incorporates the Axial Distortion Control System, an ergonomic, articulated carbon fiber structure integrated into the boot and guides the movement of the ankle.

The axial distortion control system prevents uncontrolled movement of the joint, thanks to the rigidity resulting from the boot/suit integration. Any lateral twisting or hyper-extension is prevented by a system that serves as a real ankle brace. The lower part and shin protection are made of carbon fiber and aramid fiber for maximum lightness and protection. All in a thin, lightweight boot that reduces weight at the extremities and optimizes the aerodynamic performance of the rider/motorcycle combination.

The airbag, the ultimate protection

In 2007, Dainese was the first suit and protection manufacturer to bring an electronic airbag system to World Championship races, equipping riders Simone Grotzkyj Giorgi and Michael Ranseder, in the 125 cc category. Eleven years later, in 2018, the system became mandatory and drivers in all categories integrated it into their leathers. But in reality, the D-air system was already used by all Dainese riders even before it was required by regulations, because it was perfectly integrated, to the point of being imperceptible in the saddle.

The suit worn by the World Champion is the Mugello RR, equipped with the latest evolution of the D-air system. The airbag system provides intelligent protection, its sensors detecting data 1000 times per second and thus allowing the electronic control unit to activate protection only when necessary. The D-air Racing system covers an area from the shoulder to the collarbone, inflating if necessary in a uniform and controlled manner, thanks to the microfilament technology that makes up the airbag. Shoulders, elbows and knees are protected by rigid composite protectors. In the areas most exposed to impact, titanium plates on the outside of the suit facilitate sliding and prevent the triggering of any dangerous roll in the event of a fall.

From head to toe, every motorcycle enthusiast can wear the same gear as the World Champion. Everyone has their own goals to achieve and sets their own limits, and only in the best possible safety conditions can we achieve and exceed them.
