Since the start of the season, Cal Crutchlow must play two roles. The first, that of a driver from the LCR team who is fighting to dominate the independent class and who is trying to convince Honda of its usefulness at his side to renew his lease with the HRC. The second arises from this last remark since the Briton is testing, including during the Grands Prix, the solutions provided by the parents of the new RC213V with a view to making it more efficient than the previous one. After the Spanish Grand Prix, the Briton did it again. As a test pilot only this time.
It's disappointed to have missed a podium which held out its arms to him that Cal Crutchlow found his RC213V. This for tests on a track in Jerez which had seen him fall in the race 24 hours previously. On the program, the third Honda representative after the two official HRC drivers in the running had to use a new exhaust as well as a new rear suspension.
After 70 laps and a seventh performance at 0.684s from the Yamaha Casa Particular in Viñales leader, the LCR pilot declared himself satisfied: “ This test day was particularly long because we continued to shoot during the lunch hour. We wanted to try things in short series of laps. We didn't test any new parts, we just tested the ones we used during the Spanish Grand Prix and see if we could still improve ».
With his best performance being a 1'39.319 on the seventeenth of his seventy laps, he continues: " overall it was positive. Our level is good and our pace is regular and fast. I lapped in less than 1'40 even though the track was warmer. I am very satisfied with the way the team works. Our electronics engineer works very late at night. We are happy with our results. Now we have to focus on Le Mans ". In which hostilities will begin on May 19.
