For the team manager of the Ducati MotoGP team, the best record time achieved during the Andalusian tests is of course positive, especially when complemented by the third performance of Jorge Lorenzo. But he wants not to get excited too quickly and draw too hasty conclusions, because the new Ducati will only make its appearance during the next Sepang tests at the end of January.
At the end of the second day of Spanish testing, Tardozzi spoke to Matteo Aglio of Gpone.com : “ Let's stay calm, the track has been completely resurfaced and therefore everyone is faster. Furthermore, our main rivals, the HRC team and the official Yamaha team, are not there. We have no reference for the World Champion and Honda has always been very competitive here. And performance in Jerez during the winter doesn't count for much.
“What matters are the feelings of the drivers. They had a few different elements to test here compared to Valencia, small things but Dovi and Jorge are happy. They are heading in the direction they asked.
“We are confident that we can improve the Desmosedici during the winter months. Maybe we will arrive in Malaysia a little late, but we will have 9 days of testing to catch up with our rivals if necessary. We are confident that we can do it.
“You should never be too confident when you know your rivals. We must keep our feet on the ground.
“I think Yamaha has already taken a step forward in Valencia and I'm sure they will take another step forward in their next private test at Sepang. I don't underestimate Yamaha, they will be competitive, just like Honda.
“Realistically, all that will really matter is where we are at the first race of the year. If I have to worry, I will do it on Saturday evening in Qatar. »
