In 1'41.518, Miguel Oliveira gave a big slap to the official lap record established during the 2017 GP by Franco Morbidelli in 1'42.596, and to the unofficial test record of Alex Marquez which dates from last May in 1'42.080. Hope for the others remains, however, because Francesco Bagnaia on Kalex was only a tenth behind.

It is useful to start by clarifying that this was not an official test session, possibly organized by Dorna or the IRTA. Here in Jerez, it was one team among others (in this case Marc VDS) which had rented the circuit and shared the rental amount with the other teams who had wished it. This is why not all the teams were present, and why Eskil Suter was able to come and ride with the 2-cylinder 4-stroke he made, which would not have been possible during an official session.

The times achieved during this type of test session must always be taken with caution, because any team can use a more powerful engine (Supersport) or be below the regulatory weight since there is no technical checks. We will also take into account the surface of the circuit which has been redone, therefore with fewer bumps, and the weather different from what it was at the beginning of May during the Spanish Grand Prix.

On this second day of Andalusian testing, the KTMs and Kalex dominated the debates, with Miguel Oliveira leader and Brad Binder fourth on their Austrian machines which framed Francis Bagnaia (Kalex Sky Racing Team VR46) and Alex Marquez (Kalex Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS).

The other brands defended themselves honorably with Danny Kent fifth on Speed Up,

Among the rookies, Joan Mir (Kalex Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) was sixteenth, Bo Bendsneyder (Mistral Tech 3) 21st, Romano Fenati 23rd and Jules Danilo 25th.

According to Oliveira, “We have had two days of fairly positive tests here in Jerez. We were able to work on the configuration of the bike as well as new suspensions, a new chassis and a new swingarm”.
