The French Motorcycling Federation (FFM) and the French Motor Sports Federation (FFSA) jointly presented this Wednesday, December 13 in Paris an economic assessment of the motor sports industry. Deeply anchored in their time and responsible for the challenges of our society, the two Federations represented by their respective Presidents Sébastien Poirier and Nicolas Deschaux have also drawn up an inventory of the environmental impact of their activities with a view to developing concrete actions aimed at moving towards a low carbon practice.
The main lessons from the economic and environmental barometer:
- A sporting practice with a notable economic impact: 2,9 billion euros in turnover per year;
- Popular sports rooted in our territories: 130 licensees in 000 clubs, leagues and associations;
- Events that contribute to economic and social dynamism: 64% are organized in municipalities with less than 5 inhabitants;
- An environmental impact largely linked to travel: 69% of GHG emissions from motor sports;
- A sporting practice which only represents 0,3% of emissions from the transport sector in France.
3 axes for a low carbon trajectory:
- Accompany the local associations for the more environmentally friendly practice ;
- Reduce the first emission station represented by the trips;
Lean on regulations and innovations for decrease their carbon footprint.
