Since arriving at Road America, Cameron Beaubier had an impressive perfect run, setting the fastest time in free and timed practice, Superpole and Race 1, breaking the circuit record and winning the event by dominating from the first lap to the finish. Better yet, it was simply not possible!

His teammate, Jake Gagne, did not have the necessary experience to worry him, Toni Elias et Bobby Fong had Suzukis prepared by Team Hammer, less efficient than those prepared by Yoshimura in recent years, and Matthew Scholtz only had a private motorcycle, like the BMW and Ducati riders. So we didn't see who could prevent “Cam” from winning this Sunday. He was her only enemy.

Warmup: Beaubier in turmoil

The dominator from the day before experienced a technical problem which confined him to his pit after two warm-up laps. According to Ricard Stanboli, the boss of Attack Performance which enters the Yamahas in Superbike MotoAmerica, “The motorcycle stopped suddenly. Fortunately, we will have time to consult the recorded data so that the bike will be ready for the race. »

His teammate Jake Gagne was the fastest in 2'12.390, ahead of the two Suzukis of Toni Elias and Bobby Fong. They preceded Mathew Scholtz, second on Saturday, then the two Ducatis of Kyle Wyman and PJ Jacobsen.

Warmup results:

The fastest to get going at the start was Cameron Beaubier ahead of Jake Gagne, Toni Elias, Bobby Fong, Mathew Scholtz and Josh Herrin. Bobby Fong attacked and passed second, trying to overtake Beaubier. But the Yamaha official resisted, and Fong found himself threatened by Gagne and Elias. Scholtz fifth preceded the Ducati of Kyle Wyman.

The first five widened the gap on their pursuers, with Beaubier preceding Fong, Gagne, Elias and Scholtz. Wyman sixth was 4.2 back with 10 laps remaining. Beaubier established a new circuit record in 2'11.033, then Toni Elias fell losing the front in a slow left, without seriousness. After his retirement the day before, the 2017 Spanish MotoAmerica champion left Road America with zero points… “The engine casing hit the ground and both wheels took off” Toni explained.

Beaubier then had a 1.5 lead over Fong and Gagne in the fight for second place, 2.7 over Scholtz, and 6.4 over Wyman (Ducati) and Herrin (BMW) in the fight for fifth position. Beaubier continued his festival, now 3.9 ahead of Fong and Gagne. The gap was 4.4 in the next round.

Scholtz joined Fong and took third place from him. The best top speed, 314 km/h, was to the credit of Beaubier's Yamaha, prepared by Attack Performance.

Shortly after the halfway point, Bobby Fong collided with Mathew Scholtz when braking and both fell and then gave up, without seriousness.

Beaubier then preceded Gagne by 7.6, while Herrin and Wyman competed magnificently for the third step of the podium. PJ Jacobsen was 2 seconds behind them, with his Panigale V4 R Superstock 1000 (he does both categories with the same bike).

With 4 laps remaining, Beaubier was ahead of his teammate Gagne by 10.7, then Wyman, Herrin and Jacobsen by 19.1. Cameron Beaubier finally won his second race of the weekend, taking a very clear advantage in the Championship. He preceded his teammate Jake Gagne, author of an excellent debut at Yamaha, by 13.4, then Josh Herrin, Kyle Wyman and PJ Jacobsen by 19.8.
