Finally a real race, streamed by Wayne Rainey and his team, to delight all motorcycle racing fans around the world, and finally announce the start of a return to normality. The Governor of Wisconsin specified that the confinement order would end on May 26, and MotoAmerica has therefore just announced its first event on the Road America circuit in Elkhart Lake for in two weeks.

All five categories (Superbike, Supersport, Liqui Moly Junior Cup, Stock 1000 and Twins Cup) are on the program, and unfortunately spectators will not be admitted until the next race.

“We worked hard with Road America to try to make the original date work with fans, but after Governor Evers extended the stay-at-home order until May 26, we were unable to make it work due to unknown restrictions on outdoor public gatherings,” said MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey. “But we still intend to hold the event May 29-31, without fans, and broadcast it on Fox Sports and MotoAmerica Live+. This is something we never imagined, but we never thought we would be facing something like Covid-19. »

“We will continue to work to make the event special for everyone who follows the broadcast and we will keep everyone informed of developments for the next event in June. In the meantime, we urge our fans, teams and drivers to continue to do what is necessary to ensure their safety and health. »

“This event attracts competitors and fans, not only from the United States but from around the world,” said Mike Kertscher, Chairman and CEO of Road America. “At this time, we cannot predict when we will reach a point where our outdoor public events will meet the appropriate criteria for mass public gatherings in the state of Wisconsin. Make no mistake, we plan to come back stronger and ready to continue our June events, including the WeatherTech Chicago Region SCCA June Sprint Races, June 12-14, and the IndyCar REV Grand Prix Group presented by AMR, from June 18 to 21. We also anticipate that by mid-June there will be more transparency to safely accommodate outdoor events, which is a key factor in why we added a weekend in June. »
