Hardly a week goes by without someone talking about the Energica Ego, the electric motorcycle intended to host races during European Grand Prix weekends.

We therefore sought to find out the past of this transalpine company which managed to corner the MotoGP market.

Energica Motor Company is an Italian company founded in 2014 in Modena by Franco and Livia Cevolini. It is in fact a subsidiary of the group CRP, itself belonging to an American company listed on Wall Street.

The CRP group specializes in high-tech applications for motor sports and, in particular, in Rapid Protyping, that is to say the 3D printing of various mechanical parts, whether they are in plastic or in metal (see here).

The company, located in the heart of the Italian Motor Valley, has existed since 1970 and has clients up to F1. For example, CRP was printing disposable molds for the titanium gearbox casings of the Minardi F1 as early as 2000…
Basically, theenergetic ego is therefore anything but the work of an artisan.

In addition to its activities in high-level motorsport, CRP is already known in the paddock and has even been present in the world championship. Moto2 through theADV presented in 2009 and then used by Valentine Debise within the team WTR extension.

Still in the motorcycle field, CRP turned to electric motorcycles in the same year by building the eCRP who subsequently participated in both championships TTXGP extension et e power, winning the first and finishing second in the second.

As we can see, providing around twenty racing motorcycles to animate the Grand Prix weekends should therefore not be a big obstacle for this Italian manufacturer, and if the craze of Sylvain Guintoli surprised you this morning (see here), here is a video which can explain the reason.

However, there remain questions related to weight and noise…
