It was on the occasion of the national day dedicated to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, President of the Republic of Turkey from October 29, 1923 to November 10, 1938, considered the founder of modern Turkey, that the “Türk Telekom 19 Mayıs Atatürk Rallisi”.

Mustafa Kemal was born on May 19 (in 1881 in Salonika, which was then part of the Ottoman Empire) and each year a day is dedicated to his memory, and also to youth (he had no natural children, but with his wife, 12 adopted children).

On this occasion the five-time Supersport World Champion and now senator Kenan Sofuoglu, and his disciple Toprak Razgatlioglu, took advantage of the confinement and a route well cleared by the police to travel at very high speed through the main arteries of Istanbul.
