In competition, there are sometimes “with” days and “without” days… but sometimes also “without” days and then “with” days.

This was the case this weekend for the 2 Moto2010 world champion Toni Elias who currently races in MotoAmerica Superbike.

During a Friday qualifying session at the round taking place at Miller Motorsports Park (about fifty kilometers west of Salt Lake City, Utah, USA), the current holder of the Superbike USA title saw his Yoshimura Suzuki burst into flames after falling at high speed.

Fortunately uninjured but powerless in the face of this rather unusual event, Toni Elias could only observe the partial destruction of his GSX-R 1000 by the flames.

The mechanics, however, did not count their efforts and the Spanish driver was able to win the race the next day on a… brand new machine.
