For two days, rumors have been circulating that Javier Alonso, officially Director of Events of Dorna Sports and representative of the latter to the Race Direction, would no longer be part of the staff.

The accompanying explanations are generally a quarrel between Dorna's number two and a member of the Ezpeleta family.

Several names have been put forward for its replacement, starting with that of Loris Capirossi, currently Mr. Safety on behalf of the FIM.

The other name is that ofAlberto puig, former rider and ex-mentor of Dani Pedrosa, currently involved as Director in the development of the Shell Asia Talent Cup, the Asian equivalent of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup to which he also contributed.

We don't know any more, except that yesterday, during the last round of the FIM CEV Repsol, Carmelo Ezpeleta and Alberto Puig were seen talking at length together in Valencia...

As a reminder, the composition of the Race Direction includes three members: Mike Webb (Race Director), Franco Uncini (FIM) and Javier Alonso (Dorna). Graham Webber has become Deputy Clerk of the Course and acts as Clerk of the Course when he is busy with another task.

Race Direction will remain responsible for the smooth running of events and safety. However, the competence of the Race Direction regarding the attribution of sanctions and penalties is limited to infractions which will be indisputable, such as excessive speed on the pit lane, overtaking under yellow flag, etc.

All other decisions requiring an analysis of actions, including the consequences of dangerous driving, are made by the Stewards who have exclusive responsibility for imposing sanctions and penalties for these specific cases. The Commissioners are also responsible for hearings in the event of an appeal and receive complaints themselves.

This panel of Commissioners includes three members: Mike Webb and two other members designated by the FIM. Mike Webb is responsible for coordinating the activities of the Commissioners, monitoring them and communicating decisions.

Any sanction imposed by Race Direction or the Stewards is communicated to the affected team by a secure e-mail system with automatic confirmation that the message has been read. Confirmed penalties are also displayed on the timing screens and communicated to the media.
